The 2017 Cancer Research Relay for Life is being described as a “record event” by organisers.

Coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the Gibraltar branch, the event this year attracted a record number of participants. 96 survivors and 79 teams took part, with around one thousand two hundred people involved.

At the closing ceremony, organisers also announced that a record-breaking £43,000 had been collected to date, with monies still coming in.

Miss Gibraltar 2017, Jodie Garcia was invited to officially started the race on Saturday Morning. Jodie felt honoured to be able to be part of such a touching event.

Jodie's post on Social Media:

'Today i was lucky enough to begin the Relay For Life 2017. I managed to capture this selfie with the cancer survivors in the background completing their beautiful opening lap. It was a very emotional yet beautiful sight to watch and experience. #warriors#togetherwewillbeatcancer'
